Household Notebook: Nothing NewSubmitted by law on Mon, 05/07/2007 - 07:42.
References to Household Notebooks have been found as far back in history as 1590. That's not a typo. Household inventories and guests are recorded in the Household Books of Sir Duncan, of the Campbells of Breadalbane. LINK Scotswoman, Lady Grisell Baille, daughter of Sir Patrick Hume and wife of George Baille, kept a Household Book from 1692-1733 (published in 1911). In it she kept notes on family members, directions for servants, recipes, household expenses, and travel accounts and advice. LINK In the mid 1800's, Catherine Dean Flint (wife to Massachusetts banker Waldo Flint) kept track of the tasks performed by domestic servants in a Household Notebook. Her household notebook is listed in the collections of the American Antiquarian Society. LINK Sylvia Fletcher-Moulton, daughter of Lord Justice Fletcher Moulton, kept two Household Notebooks - one listing her silver, and the other labeled "Bric a Brac" in the early 1900's.
